In this conceptual design by Inna Sparrow and Vova Kurbatov , we explore what it takes to create an ideal quarantine shelter. “Designing a perfect quarantine shelter is not an easy task. We had to leverage all basic principles of architecture, interior design, materials and new technologies. This unique black and white apartment, from company Geometrix may be a design option for some who love the futuristic style and may bring to mind spaceships. The apartment, with its overwhelming white glossy finishes (not only on the floors, but also the ceilings and walls), is like a protective cocoon, airtight, sealed, and compactly built perhaps to shield one from any potentially dangerous outdoor elements… The installation of lights in the ceilings and wall panels, often zig zag to create the illusion of being within either a nightclub or a spaceship....

Okay, this one is for the designers out there. Starting today(June 8, 2009, Frank Lloyd Wright’s 142nd birthday), Google is holding the Design It: Shelter Competition that challenges participants to create a simple shelter for a specific geographic location anywhere in the world. According to Google, the inspiration for ‘Design It’ comes from Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic assignment for the apprentices at Taliesin, his architecture school in Arizona and Wisconsin....

When it comes to designing a home that is situated near an incredible landscape, it is always a challenge to ensure the home is beautiful in its own right without detracting from its natural surroundings. The family home, located in Pezula Private Estates outside of Knysna in South Africa not only takes on this challenge, but succeeds spectacularly. This quirkily colourful home is a cottage in the suburbs of Moscow, designed by talent at LOV Studio . The idea was to create a modern interior that maintained a country house atmosphere.
