Modern interior design seems to have undergone a mass desaturation process, with many contemporary homes decked out in a monochrome manner. Monochrome is cool, but so is colour. This apartment, visualised by Ekaterina Domracheva , uses chunks of colourful decor, bright art and accent furniture to enliven a smart monochrome base. This combo results in a vibrant space that is easy to live with, one which feels warm and joyous yet relaxing. Modern pendant lights, the use of texture and subtle wall pattern add bags of interest to the living spaces too. Many of the layouts meet with the challenge of oddly angular room shapes - a challenge that is met with gusto and success.

A lively living space sets a welcoming scene, decorated in a rich blue and red colour scheme. When scrutinised, the decor of the room is predominantly white. Just a few luscious red accent pieces vibe with a deep blue kitchen and tv wall decor in the open plan arrangement.

One of the hero pieces in the room is a deep red accent chair , which offers a stylish relaxation spot against the blue tv media cabinets. The flat screen tv floats in the centre of a white panel that matches the white walls of the room.

Light taupe upholstery covers the modular modern sofa that divides the open plan living room in two. A couple of velvety red cushions brighten the seating.

Beside the sofa, a glass side table stands poised and waiting; its stand is shaped to wrap comfortably around the seat base.

A beautiful flower basket and shining wine glasses dress a black dining table, where a white table runner cuts across its dark surface. A circular dining room pendant light echoes the round shape of the table. Find more beautiful possibilities for dining room pendant lights here.

Modern art brings colour to the monochrome dining area.

A kitchen peninsula extends behind the living room sofa, set with two bar stools for casual dining and a good view of the tv. A trio of pendant lights are suspended along the length of the breakfast bar/coffee bar. A vase of greenery decorates its surface.

Inside the modern bedroom there is a peach colour scheme at play. A peach fabric bedstead and oversized headboard dominate the room, matched by the hues in modern wall art.

Slender bedroom pendant lights have been picked out in a black finish to offset the sweetness of the peachy palette; black and grey bed clothes contribute to the balance.

A peach bedroom chair is set inside a deep wooden window reveal of sorts, with spotlights set into the ceiling panel.

The light wood floor is partially covered by a large grey area rug, which tones with grey closet doors.

Over at the makeup vanity area, the wooden window reveal wraps around to encompass an elliptical modern vanity mirror . The makeup storage console has a floating effect, as though it has extruded out of the wall to serve the peach vanity seat .

Coral and grey decor covers the master bathroom, in a two-tone tile arrangement. Black base notes punctuate the scheme.

The modern bathroom vanity has a crisp linear design in monochrome. A round illuminated mirror glows above it.

A frameless shower screen shields the splash zone of an over bath shower, allowing pink tiles to shine through uninterrupted. LED lights underline the base of the bathtub, casting illumination over the pale bathroom flooring.

The second bedroom in this home holds a kid’s decor scheme in aqua blue and yellow, and just a pinch of red for added punch. The unusual shape of the room is seen as a design opportunity rather than a hindrance, with the diagonal wall utilised as a good spot for a wall mounted bedside shelf unit.

A repositionable wall sconce lights the bedside. Playful polka dot patterned monochrome wallpaper decorates the other side of the single bed. Two white floating wall shelves display trophies and keepsakes.

A blue window reveal provides a colourful moment of relief amongst the sea of monochrome wall pattern, and frames black and white drapes. A red desk chair adds another bright accent by the window. A bespoke tv unit is chamfered to fit the unusual room shape, and its mix and match doors bring the different hues of the room together in one piece.

A round yellow rug looks like sunshine on the floor. A trio of flush fitting ceiling lights bring a splash of yellow, blue and red to a white ceiling.

Blue paint picks out the TV wall, and the colour runs on as a stripe across a white wardrobe.

The kid’s bathroom decor is a combination of green, white and blue tiled sections. Natural wood tone and wicker accents help to neutralise the lively shades.

A recessed storage nook in the shower is clad in green tile, whilst blue tiles engulf the rest of the shower enclosure. White shelves cut through the colour, freshening the look.

A black heated towel rail contrasts with the white wall beside the shower; black tiles edge the base of the built-in cubicle. A wood lined cubby has been set into the outside shower wall as a handy place to store a folded set of towels. A concealed cupboard above hides away spares and less colour coordinated items.
These two freshly sophisticated home interiors, put together by MOPS Studio , embody a modern rustic vibe that is hugely welcoming. Rustic charm often carries with it some quaint rough edges to achieve that well lived-in country house look and ambiance, yet this pair manage to encompass bags of rustic charm in a sparkling clean and uncluttered manner. Cosy contemporary pieces can be found in every direction, along with nods to nature and natural beauty. However, these light, bright living spaces are blessed with plenty of breathing room that allow free-flowing energy around each cleverly curated piece. These are two beautifully unique living spaces that are sure to leave you craving more modern rustic hospitality.

Our first residence that incorporates modern living with a rustic vibe is located in the Moscow region, Russia, with an area of 426 square metres. The interior of this country house is predominantly neutral, though it is anything but bland. Natural colors and materials are applied alongside more modern elements in a dynamic way that immediately grabs you. From a towering quartzite accent wall that reaches into exposed rafters, to a dominant bespoke black lighting track, this place has edge.

The home layout was reworked to maximise the feeling of space, which included the removal of a long corridor that was attached to the living room. There is a three piece modern sofa arrangement at the centre of the living space, with two of them forming a sociable family gathering spot around the tv, and the other smaller volume facing toward an open flame modern fireplace.

A floor lamp lights the sofas.

Beside the lounge area, a dining set has space to seat six diners by the window.

A small side table stands below the floor lamp .

The L-shaped sofa wraps the lounge space, separating it from the neighbouring dining room. A duo of nesting coffee tables sits in its crook.

Herringbone tweed fabric has been paired with smoother counterparts to create a quaint yet modern chequerboard upholstery pattern on the main sofa. The upholstery differs from seat to seat of the three sofas to keep the look casual and loose.

dress the media cabinet, which incorporates ingenious slotted magazine racks in its volume.

A stunning dining room light stretches the length of the table.

A second dining table has been combined with the kitchen island . The Scandinavian style chair seen here is the Muuto Cover chair .

The wooden dining table wraps around one end of the island, with the rest of the island’s volume left accessible for storage drawers.

Although open plan to the lounge, the kitchen is placed around the corner so as not to encroach on the relaxation zone. The one wall kitchen has been positioned so as not to be visible from any of the living room sofas, and the extra dining zone is pushed to its far end.

The fantastic quartzite wall that reaches the rafters is in fact the chimney breast. An open flame modern fireplace design flickers wildly along its base.

Two designer table lamps dress a wall mounted console unit in the home entryway.

A Shark umbrella stand adds a quirk.

Bespoke seating in the hallway is luxuriously cushioned and upholstered.

Our second modern rustic vibe residence is also located in the Moscow region, Russia. This home has a slightly larger area of 500 square metres, though a more divided layout actually makes the living space appear more compact. Huge glass doors let natural light and a garden view wash over the lounge. Moss green scatter cushions bring nature’s palette indoors.

A black sofa table displays a pared back selection of knick-knacks.

The fireplace wall has a wrap around hearth, where two chairs are pulled up to toast by the open flame.

Huge doors open up to reveal a flat screen tv.

A towering white bookcase acts as a divide between the lounge and stairwell.

The sofa table marks the rest of the dividing line between the hallway and living room.

An upholstered bench seat sits against the back of the bookcase wall.

The fabric covered bench seat it is served by a small black side table that neatly wraps its edge.

A small wall hung console unit holds keys by the home entry door.

Glass balustrades support open stair treads for a floating effect.

The open plan kitchen in this home also disappears off the side of the lounge, with the single wall of units out of immediate view. However, a couple of leather loungers do offer a place to relax by the chef - or for the chef.

Eight moss-like dining chairs provide a beautiful nature inspired visual in the modern dining room , which is located off the far end of the kitchen.

Four kitchen bar stools also provide a more casual eating spot at the island of the grey kitchen .

A couple of orange leather accents warm predominantly grey bedroom decor. Green house plants bring the outdoors in.

Grey curtains dress triple aspect windows.

A magazine rack stands beside one bedroom chair by the window.

The bedroom tv wall decor is slate grey with a floating media unit. A slatted door leads to a luxury ensuite bathroom.

Inside the luxury bathroom there is a unique double sink bathroom vanity , where pedestal sinks protrude through a chunky wooden countertop.

A green tinted shower screen colours the space.

The basins are set in front of a huge window, so the vanity mirrors have been hung from the ceiling.

A bed of pebbles provides a natural rustic finish beneath the vanity.
