We were browsing through Italian kitchen maker Elmar Cucine ’s catalog the other day and liked what we saw. The forms they use are simple with bold lines and sharp edges giving their designs somewhat of a masculine touch. This emphasis on simplicity is no accident and is expressed quite clearly in their philosophy: Elmar is not simply content to manufacture products, it wants to manufacture simple products. Simplicity is harmony, the happy balance between form and function that has its fulcrum, its deep meaning, in the human being....

We have covered this gloriously ethereal loft designed Paulina Arcklin once earlier , however, the unique space seems to have undergone some standout decor changes. Beautiful modern tribal decor pieces have popped up throughout the home, as well as a freestanding bathtub in the centre of the living room. The Milan apartment is an old small photo studio space of 90+15 square metres. It has a compact mezzanine area and one former darkroom, which is now utilised for the relocated bedroom....

This burning collection of new age fireplaces by Planika Fires was imagined under Ayers Rock in Australia, the creators tell us “The atmosphere created by the flames inspired the two (creators) to find an easy way to have the same fire in contemporary interiors. Their intention was to overcome the existing difficulties in the form of soot, ash and the need for a chimney.” Here’s what they came up with…...

Located in the Greenbank Park neighborhood of the small city-state of Singapore, this tropical home is a truly serene space that celebrates its natural surroundings along with stunning design. The house was concepted and built by the team at HYLA Architects and measures 520 square meters (5597 square feet). Providing inspiration for small apartment remodels, these two home designs from Ukraine demonstrate intelligent use of limited floor area. Each apartment interior has been minimalistically styled in order to achieve a sense of functional spaciousness within their compact 40 square metre confines. Storage volumes assist the clean flow of the layout, whilst colourful accents freshen and enliven. We look at the open flow of a studio with a portiere shrouded bedroom, in contrast to the segmented approach of an apartment that squeezes in a separated cosy lounge, kitchen diner, glass wall bedroom and home workspace....

Within the fashion industry it is said that black hides all manner of sins. It must therefore be the case, that when it comes to interior design, white is the new black. Making dark spaces lighter, dull spaces brighter, small spaces appear larger and old spaces appear newer, white’s power to transform aids the evolution of interior spaces. This intriguing dwelling comes from the extraordinary vision of Argentinian architect Nestor Sandbank, who currently lives in Israel working as part of the ‘Extreme Makeover Israel’ team. As well as performing extreme home makeovers, Sandbank also designs high-end homes like we see here for the rich and elite. This particular home explores a mature family’s need for individual, private pockets of space within a connected home setup, an idea which is truly representative of how the modern family unit has evolved....
